Abstract
- OpenAI has announced that it has successfully blocked over 20 malicious campaigns worldwide that were using its platform for cybercrimes and spreading misinformation. These campaigns involved activities such as creating social media accounts, troubleshooting malware, writing articles, and generating AI-generated profile images for fake profiles. OpenAI stated that while threat actors continue to evolve, they have not seen any significant breakthroughs in their ability to create new malware or build viral audiences. The company also interfered with the creation of social media content related to elections in the United States, Rwanda, India, and the European Union, preventing these networks from gaining long-term viewers or viral engagement. OpenAI highlighted specific cyber operations conducted by threat actors from China and Iran, as well as the actions taken against influence operations that produced information in multiple languages. The company also warned about the potential misuse of generative AI to distribute customized false material through microtargeted emails, which could lead to the large-scale dissemination of false information and manipulation of public opinion.
