Abstract

A new study has found that life expectancy is stagnating for Australians under the age of 50. While Australia has historically had a high life expectancy, this trend is concerning for younger generations. The study compared life expectancy between English-speaking countries and other high-income countries and found that Australians born between 1930 and 1969 have exceptional life expectancy, but those born after the 1970s have lower life expectancy compared to other countries. The study suggests that reducing inequality and addressing structural disadvantages could improve life expectancy in Australia. [Extracted from the article]
