Abstract

A recent study conducted by Khon Kaen University in Thailand analyzed the epidemiology and clinical outcomes of pediatric drowning in the country from 2015 to 2019. The study found that drowning remains a common cause of death among children in Thailand, particularly among males under the age of six. The majority of drownings occurred during the summer season, with April having the highest number of cases. Factors associated with the need for intubation included metabolic acidosis and pulmonary edema, while in-hospital cardiac arrest and drowning-related complications, such as renal failure, were significantly associated with mortality. The study highlights the importance of understanding the risk factors and outcomes of pediatric drowning in order to develop effective prevention strategies. [Extracted from the article]
