Abstract

A systematic review and meta-analysis conducted by the University of Western Australia examined the use of tranexamic acid (TXA) in pediatric adenotonsillectomy (AT) procedures. The review analyzed eight studies and found that intravenous TXA did not significantly reduce perioperative bleeding in pediatric patients undergoing AT. However, when topical TXA was used intraoperatively during adenoidectomy alone, there was a significant reduction in both intraoperative blood loss and postoperative bleeding. The study suggests that TXA is safe and well-tolerated in the pediatric population, but further research is needed to investigate its risks and benefits in AT procedures.
