Abstract

A study conducted at the Toyohashi Heart Center in Japan has found that the Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI) can be used as a predictor of long-term cardiovascular disease prognosis. The study analyzed 632 elective off-pump coronary artery bypass (OPCAB) procedures and divided patients into two groups based on their GNRI scores. The results showed that patients with lower GNRI scores had a longer postoperative hospital stay and lower 5-year survival rates compared to those with higher GNRI scores. However, other perioperative outcomes were similar between the groups, suggesting that a low GNRI should not prevent patients from undergoing OPCAB surgery. [Extracted from the article]
