Abstract

A study conducted at the SRM Institute of Science and Technology in Kattankulathur, India, has found that phytochemically modified copper oxide-doped yttrium oxide nanoparticles (CuO/Y2O3 NPs) have potential applications in antibacterial, photocatalytic, and biomarker detection. The researchers used Catharanthus roseus (CR) leaves extract as a phytochemical modifier for the nanoparticles, resulting in enhanced antibacterial activity against both gram-positive and gram-negative pathogens. The CuO/Y2O3 NPs also exhibited photocatalytic properties and demonstrated a low oxidation peak potential, extended frequency linear range, and ultralow detection limit for the biomarker threonine. This research contributes to the development of sustainable nanomaterial modifications with multifunctionality. [Extracted from the article]
