Abstract

A study conducted at Children's Hospital Philadelphia explores the maturation of the auditory cortex in infants and toddlers. The researchers aimed to understand the association between the maturation of white matter microstructure and the latency of the infant auditory response. The study found that an increase in thalamocortical neural conduction velocity, due to increased axon diameter and/or myelin maturation, contributes to a decrease in the infant auditory evoked response latency. This research provides valuable insights into the rapid changes in neural circuit activity during the first two years of life. [Extracted from the article]
