Abstract

A recent study conducted at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital compared patient-reported outcomes following different types of amputation surgeries for chronic lower extremity wounds. The study found that patients who underwent free tissue transfer (FTT), partial foot amputation (PFA), or below-knee amputation (BKA) achieved similar levels of lower extremity function, pain, and quality of life postoperatively. The researchers concluded that patient-centered surgical management, interdisciplinary care, and proper patient selection can optimize postoperative outcomes for patients with chronic lower extremity wounds. The study provides valuable insights for healthcare professionals and patients considering these surgical options. [Extracted from the article]
