Abstract

A recent study conducted at the Seventh Affiliated Hospital examined the relationship between baseline serum bicarbonate levels and the risk of postoperative delirium (POD) in patients undergoing cardiac surgery. The study analyzed data from the MIMIC-IV database and included 5,422 patients. The findings revealed that lower baseline serum bicarbonate levels were associated with a higher risk of POD. The researchers suggest that monitoring and adjusting serum bicarbonate levels could help identify high-risk patients and potentially improve outcomes. [Extracted from the article]
