Abstract

A recent study conducted at Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital in Nigeria focused on sickle cell anemia, a genetic blood disorder that primarily affects Africans and Asians. The researchers designed and implemented electronic registries to collect data on sickle cell disease patients at the hospital. The registries included information on 2,659 patients, with the majority being children. The study found that the most common complication of sickle cell anemia was painful events. The researchers concluded that electronic registries could be a valuable tool for collecting and analyzing data on sickle cell disease patients. [Extracted from the article]
