Abstract

A new study funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) and led by Professor Sudha Sundar from the University of Birmingham has found that an ultrasound test could detect 96% of ovarian cancers in postmenopausal women. The study compared six diagnostic tests and found that the IOTA ADNEX model, which looks at ultrasound features, had the highest accuracy. The researchers recommend that this ultrasound test replace the current standard of care test in the UK. However, it is important to note that the higher sensitivity of the ultrasound test may also lead to some false positives. [Extracted from the article]
