Abstract
- A recent report discusses research findings on pharmacognosy, specifically focusing on the golden chamomile plant (Matricaria aurea). The review summarizes the ethnomedicinal uses, phytochemical content, biological, and pharmacological activities of M. aurea, as well as briefly mentioning M. chamomilla. The research found that the chemical composition of the essential oil in M. aurea varies depending on the geographical zone of the plant collection site. The plant has been traditionally used for various ailments, and it has demonstrated antioxidant, antibacterial, cytotoxic, antidiabetic, and anti-inflammatory activities. The study suggests that M. aurea could be used as an alternative to M. chamomilla, but further investigations are needed to understand its mechanisms of action and potential adverse effects.
