Abstract
- In communication engineering course, there are some challenges in explaining the basic theory and demonstrate how communication works in actual implementation. The concept of Software Defined Radio (SDR) implemented in hardware using USRP is utilized as a new tool to demonstrate the fundamental theory in the wireless communication system. This paper presents the SDR-based project for basic signal transmission and modulation, the FM Radio project, and the FMCW-Radar project using GNU Radio and USRP. The students design one project on a wireless communication topic; define the specific parameters simulating the software and implement the real transmission using USRP hardware. This Project Based Learning method improves the student's interest and motivation to understand the theory by practicing the real experiment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
