Abstract

The 8th edition of the Yokohama Triennale, titled "Wild Grass: Our Lives," was held in Yokohama, Japan, and featured the work of 93 artists from around the world. The theme of the triennale was inspired by the philosophy of Chinese author Lu Xun, who believed that the resilience and strength of "wild grass" represented the necessary vitality for survival and the expression of distinct subjectivities. The exhibition aimed to address current global issues such as inequality, climate change, conservatism, nationalism, and authoritarianism, while also highlighting qualities such as courage, resilience, faith, and solidarity as potential solutions. The exhibition was divided into seven chapters, each exploring different sub-themes and featuring various artistic approaches. Despite some initial concerns about the density of the exhibition, the curatorial approach successfully created thought-provoking connections between different practices and ideas, offering a snapshot of the contemporary world.
