Abstract

MAD Architects' One River North is a 187-unit apartment building located in Denver's northeast quarter. The building features a meandering biomorphic channel with vegetation and a cascading water feature integrated into its glazed curtain wall. The design aims to bring a slice of wilderness to the urban environment and create spaces for outdoor gathering and exploration. While the building's sculpted walls have received some criticism for their artificial appearance, the landscape is expected to mature and fill the spaces over time. The project's sustainability efforts primarily focus on high-efficiency mechanical and plumbing systems, but the architects emphasize the importance of balancing sustainability with daring experimentation in material and form.
