Abstract

Bajabulile Swazi Tshabalala, a former senior staffer at the African Development Bank (AfDB), has been endorsed by South Africa's National Treasury to become the next head of the pan-African lender. Tshabalala would be the first woman to lead the AfDB if appointed. She has three decades of experience in finance and holds a BA in economics from Lawrence University and an MBA from Wake Forest University. Other candidates for the position include Samuel Maimbo, a vice president at the World Bank, and Amadou Hott, a special envoy to the current AfDB president.
