Abstract

A case report from Nippon Medical School Hospital in Tokyo, Japan, discusses a female patient with vascular Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (vEDS) who developed pulmonary Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) infection. The patient also had multiple intestinal perforations and bilateral external iliac artery dissection. Treatment with rifampicin, ethambutol, and clarithromycin improved respiratory symptoms and resulted in negative acid-fast bacilli cultures. This case highlights the rare complications associated with vEDS and suggests a possible mechanism of infection. Further research is needed on respiratory infections in patients with vEDS and MAC disease. [Extracted from the article]
