Abstract

A recent report from the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh, India, highlights the challenges and shortcomings of the Mental Health Care Act 2017 in India. The report is based on an online survey of practicing psychiatrists, with 92.5% expressing dissatisfaction with the Act and calling for amendments or repeal. The study found that procedural issues and non-implementation of the Act were major obstacles to providing care and making necessary decisions for patients. The researchers concluded that the Act, in its current form, is unimplementable and requires significant revisions. [Extracted from the article]
