Abstract
- A recent report from The Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in the United Kingdom provides new information about the use of L-carnitine for valproic acid-induced toxicity. Valproic acid is a fatty acid used for various therapeutic purposes, but it can have adverse effects on the liver and cause hyperammonemia. L-carnitine, an essential cofactor for fatty acid metabolism, has shown promise in treating these toxicities. The research suggests that intravenous administration of L-carnitine may be more effective than oral or bolus administration. However, the optimal dose and route of administration are still unknown.
