Abstract
- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has found that some bodybuilding products may illegally contain steroids or steroid-like substances, which can pose serious health risks. These risks include liver injury, severe acne, hair loss, altered mood, increased aggression, sexual dysfunction, and life-threatening reactions such as kidney damage, heart attack, stroke, pulmonary embolism, and deep vein thrombosis. Many of these products are marketed as hormone products or alternatives to anabolic steroids, but actually contain synthetic hormones related to testosterone. The FDA warns that these products are often labeled as dietary supplements, even if they do not meet the requirements, and are unlawfully marketed online and in retail stores. Consumers who use these products, especially in combination or with harmful or hidden ingredients, are at greater risk for serious and life-threatening reactions. The FDA recommends consulting a healthcare professional if using these products and reporting any adverse events or potentially unlawful products to the FDA. [Extracted from the article]
