Abstract
- A recent study conducted at Amsterdam University Medical Center examined the variation in the conversion factor used to estimate potassium intake based on renal potassium excretion. The study found that the percentage of dietary potassium excreted in urine varies considerably and is influenced by factors such as sodium intake, potassium intake, urinary aldosterone, urinary cortisol, and urine volume. The researchers suggest that the World Health Organization's fixed conversion factor of 1.3 may lead to inaccurate estimations of potassium intake. This information is important for understanding the relationship between potassium intake and health outcomes such as blood pressure and cardiovascular events. [Extracted from the article]
