Abstract

Researchers at the University of Padua in Italy conducted a study on Eryngium thorifolium Boiss, a plant species used for medicinal and culinary purposes. They analyzed the chemical composition, antioxidant properties, enzyme inhibition, and cytotoxicity of various extracts from the plant's aerial parts and roots. The study found that the extracts exhibited antioxidant and enzyme inhibition activities, with the aerial parts showing the highest antioxidant activity. The extracts also demonstrated cytotoxicity against human embryonic and murine macrophage cell lines, indicating potential therapeutic applications in managing diseases such as cancer, diabetes, and neurodegenerative disorders.
