Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers from the University of Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) examined factors associated with unsuppressed viral load (VL) in patients receiving antiretroviral treatment (ART) for HIV/AIDS in the Tanganyika province. The study found that poor HIV status disclosure, poor ART adherence, ART interruption, lack of participation in support groups, baseline WHO clinical stage 3 and 4, opportunistic infections (OIs), and non-communicable chronic diseases (NCDs) were significantly associated with unsuppressed VL. The researchers recommend implementing innovative strategies to target at-risk patient groups and strengthening the monitoring of these factors to achieve viral load suppression.
