Abstract
- "Graphic Narratives of Organised Crime, Gender and Power in Europe: Discarded Footnotes" is a collaboration between Felia Allum and Anna Mitchell that presents four narratives of women involved in organized crime in Europe. The book challenges misconceptions that women are only victims and highlights their agency in constrained circumstances. Each chapter tells the story of a different woman, including experiences of human trafficking, drug dealing, and involvement in the Italian Camorra. The graphic novel format effectively communicates the emotional and affective aspects of these women's personal narratives. While the book does not break new ground in terms of understanding women involved in organized crime, it compellingly foregrounds the contradictions and complexity surrounding women's agency and coercion in these situations.
