Abstract

Engie SA, a French utility company, has extended the maintenance halt at its Doel-4 nuclear reactor in Belgium due to issues with the unit's concrete dome. The reactor will remain shut down until the end of November while further inspections are carried out to assess the damage. Engie has already permanently closed two of its seven aging reactors in Belgium, which has had financial implications for the company and raised concerns about potential winter blackouts. The decision to prolong the life of Doel-4 and another reactor was made last year to ensure a secure energy supply in the wake of the Ukraine conflict and reactor halts in neighboring France.
