Abstract
- Fortescue Ltd has signed a memorandum of understanding with Chinese shipping company COSCO Shipping Ltd to develop technologies for lower emissions and a green fuel supply chain. The collaboration aims to reduce carbon emissions in the Australia-China iron ore shipping corridor. Fortescue has also developed a green ammonia capable ship engine and received certification to use ammonia as a marine fuel. Western Australia has introduced significant reforms to its environmental laws, allowing other government regulators to issue approvals ahead of an environmental impact assessment. The changes aim to streamline the approval process for major projects while maintaining strong environmental protections. Australia is the second-largest producer of carbon dioxide emissions, trailing only Russia in carbon exports. The country's high exports of coal and gas contribute to its large global carbon footprint. Gold Fields Ltd is expanding its solar capacity at the Granny Smith mine in Western Australia, aiming to generate 21% of its energy requirements from renewable sources. The expansion will reduce energy costs and carbon intensity at the mine. [Extracted from the article]
