Abstract

The article discusses the consolidation of European airlines and the efforts of major carriers to strengthen their market positions through acquisitions. Lufthansa has gained approval to acquire a stake in ITA Airways, while Air France-KLM has acquired a stake in Scandinavian Airlines. These acquisitions aim to improve networks and competitiveness, but integrating different business models and overcoming cultural and operational differences may be challenging. The northern European market, particularly in Norway, holds potential for tourism, and airlines like Norwegian and TAP Air Portugal are expanding their networks. IAG's attempt to acquire Air Europa was called off, but they remain interested in consolidation and are considering acquiring TAP Air Portugal. Regulatory concerns will continue to shape the European airline industry. [Extracted from the article]
