Abstract
- The widespread adoption of IoT-enabled communication owes much to the introduction of the IEEE 802.11ah standard for Wi-Fi communications. Operating within the sub 1 GHz band, this standard offers numerous enhanced features, including scalability to accommodate more stations with lower energy consumption compared to existing technologies. Ensuring optimal energy efficiency in IoT networks is particularly critical in densely populated, high contention environments to support long-range connectivity. Given the promising future of IEEE 802.11ah in enabling autonomous IoT communications, enhancing the Restricted Access Window (RAW) mechanism becomes pivotal for prolonging device lifetimes and fostering innovation in protocol development. This study's highlight lies in investigating energy efficiency within the RAW. Preceding the formulation of an optimization function for maximizing energy efficiency, a comprehensive energy performance analysis was conducted. Both analytical and simulation results across various scenarios corroborate the efficacy of the proposed methodology. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
