Abstract

The Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (Omers) will no longer make direct private equity investments in Europe as it restructures its operations in the region. Instead, Omers plans to invest alongside partners and third-party managers. This decision comes as Jonathan Mussellwhite, who led private equity in Europe, left Omers earlier this month. The pension fund's private equity portfolio will be split, with Michael Block leading the global funds strategy and Eric Haley overseeing the North American buyout program. Omers had net assets of C$133.6 billion at the end of June and previously withdrew its venture capital arm from Europe. Private equity dealmaking in Europe has been slow due to disagreements on valuations. [Extracted from the article]
