Abstract

A study conducted at Haji Adam Malik General Hospital in Medan, Indonesia, aimed to determine the association between clinical findings and laboratory parameters with the mortality of children with diphtheria. The study found that clinical characteristics of myocarditis and airway obstruction were associated with mortality in diphtheria patients. Additionally, there was a significant association between thrombocytopenia and mortality. The researchers concluded that pediatricians should be aware of these characteristics to prevent mortality in diphtheria cases. [Extracted from the article]
