Abstract

Researchers from Shanghai Ocean University have published a study on the antimicrobial peptide thanatin, which shows promise in targeting antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Thanatin, a 21-amino acid peptide, has broad-spectrum antibacterial activity and is particularly effective against multidrug-resistant strains. The peptide targets the outer membrane biosynthesis system of bacteria, which is recognized as a critical vulnerability in antibiotic-resistant bacteria. The study explores the structure-activity relationship, synthesis methods, antimicrobial activity, and potential applications of thanatin in clinical, environmental, food, and agricultural settings.
