Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at Friedrich-Alexander-Universitat Erlangen-Nurnberg (FAU) suggests that the process of food intake is organized at the cellular level in the brain. The brain passes information between different teams of neurons during eating to ensure that the appropriate amount of energy is consumed. Malfunctions in this process may lead to eating disorders such as anorexia or binge eating. The researchers identified four teams of neurons that become active in sequence during the eating process, working together like relay runners. The findings may have therapeutic potential for treating eating disorders. [Extracted from the article]
