Abstract

A study conducted by researchers from the Oncode Institute in Utrecht, Netherlands, explores the role of metabolic rewiring in cancer cells and its impact on their ability to proliferate. The researchers highlight the limitations of current in vitro models in accurately reflecting the tumor microenvironment and translating metabolic discoveries into effective clinical therapies. They discuss recent advancements in establishing more physiologically relevant in vitro culture conditions, such as organoids, which may bridge the gap between in vitro and in vivo findings and facilitate the development of innovative metabolic therapies for cancer. The study was funded by the European Research Council and Stichting Kinderen Kankervrij. [Extracted from the article]
