Abstract

A recent study conducted by the BHF Centre for Cardiovascular Science examined the effect of osteoporosis treatments on vascular calcification in patients with aortic stenosis. The study, called SALTIRE2, involved 150 patients who were randomized to receive denosumab, alendronic acid, or a placebo. The researchers found that neither denosumab nor alendronic acid had any significant impact on the progression or activity of coronary or aortic calcification. These findings suggest that osteoporosis treatments do not have a major effect on vascular calcification in atherosclerosis. [Extracted from the article]
