Abstract

A recent survey conducted by HR consulting firm Randstad found that while progress has been made in creating a more inclusive workplace for LGBTQI+ employees, there are still significant issues that need to be addressed. The survey revealed that 41% of LGBTQI+ workers have experienced discrimination or prejudice at work, although the same number reported facing less discrimination than they did five years ago. Additionally, one in three respondents reported feeling more isolated in the workplace than they did five years ago. These challenges are impacting LGBTQI+ workers' performance and motivation, with 36% of respondents feeling that not being able to be themselves at work affects their productivity. The survey also found that one-third of participants have quit a job due to feeling uncomfortable at work, and many believe that their sexuality or gender identity has negatively affected their career. The findings highlight the need for greater support and inclusivity in workplaces. Another survey focused specifically on transgender or gender-nonconforming workers found that many of these employees have encountered bias and discrimination in the workplace. The survey revealed that 59% of transgender or gender-nonconforming workers have felt discriminated against or treated differently at work, and 31% believe that no progress has been made in the past year regarding trans worker rights or inclusivity in the workplace.
