ПРОБЛЕМАТИКА АТРИБУЦІЇ ТА ОПИСУ АНТИКВАРНОЇ ТА ІСТОРИЧНОЇ КЛИНКОВОЇ ЗБРОЇ.

Objective: The purpose of the study is to analyze the essence of the attribution and description of antique and historical bladed weapons. The methods on which the expert relies in the attributive description are analyzed. The phasing of the descriptive part of the design of bladed weapons is considered. The categorization of the state of preservation and the degree of «good» preservation of bladed weapons are highlighted as a benchmark for comparison. The main goal is the formation of a unified vision among experts and connoisseurs of cold bladed weapons in the methodological base, the use of names and a competent description of structural details with the definition of dimensional characteristics. The results of the research will contribute to objective analysis among experts in the process of attribution and description of antique and historical bladed weapons. The research methodology is based on methods of analysis and synthesis. Structural-comparative and comparative-historical methods were also used. To systematize and assess the representativeness in the disclosure of the topic of published sources, source study methods of bibliographic heuristics, classification and systematization were used. Key findings: 1. The task of an art historian - an expert operating with cultural values is to acquire theoretical and practical skills based on the fundamentals of physical and applied optics, non-destructive research methods, as well as knowledge in understanding research processes, including creation and existence in description and attribution, collectible edged weapons, as well as analysis of scientific publications and archival sources when conducting art criticism examination for cultural value. 2. The process of attributing bladed weapons is a step-by-step cycle, where the expert is guided by a comparative analysis, in combination using analysis of marks and factory marks, study of inscriptions on bladed weapons, heraldic, stylistic, technological and chemical analysis. 3. In the description of antique and historical bladed weapons, the expert uses the terminology of the structural parts of bladed weapons, and also shows the main variability in the design of blades and sheaths.
