Abstract
- A surgical team at NYU Langone Health successfully performed the world's first whole-eye and partial-face transplant on a military veteran who had survived an electrical accident. The recipient, Aaron James, has made a remarkable recovery and is back to daily life. Although the transplanted eye has not regained vision, there are promising signs that the light-sensitive nerve cells in the eye have survived the transplant, giving hope for future whole-eye transplants. The procedure utilized innovative techniques and cell-based therapies, and further research is needed to draw more definitive conclusions. [Extracted from the article]
