Abstract

A study conducted at a tertiary care hospital in Central India examined the susceptibility trends of clinical methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) isolates to commonly used anti-MRSA drugs. The study found that the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of vancomycin, teicoplanin, and linezolid, which are standard antimicrobial drugs for MRSA, increased over the three-year period from 2020 to 2022. While none of the MRSA isolates were resistant to vancomycin, teicoplanin, and daptomycin, two isolates showed resistance to linezolid. The study suggests that the recovery of vancomycin-intermediate S. aureus (VISA), teicoplanin-intermediate S. aureus (TISA), and linezolid-resistant MRSA strains is concerning and may indicate potential treatment failure and the emergence of resistant strains.
