Abstract

A recent study conducted in China examined the safety of omitting sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) in patients with early-stage breast cancer who have clinically negative axillary lymph nodes. SLNB is a standard procedure for these patients, but it often results in postoperative complications. The study aims to determine if omitting SLNB is a safe alternative. The trial is a prospective, single-arm, non-inferiority, phase II study involving female breast cancer patients with a tumor of 3 cm in diameter. The primary endpoint is 3-year invasive disease-free survival, and secondary endpoints include the incidence of lymphedema and locoregional recurrence. The trial is expected to conclude in 2027.
