Abstract

A recent report from the University of Florida discusses the use of the sequential parallel comparison design (SPCD) in clinical trials to combat the challenge of high placebo responses reducing treatment effects. The SPCD has been shown to increase statistical power compared to traditional randomized trials. The report suggests utilizing a constrained variance-covariance matrix and importance sampling to develop accurate confidence intervals for overall treatment effect size. The proposed intervals are illustrated using two real trials for major depressive disorder. This research has been peer-reviewed and provides valuable insights for clinical researchers.
