Abstract

A new report discusses research findings on marijuana/cannabis use among correctional workers in Ontario, Canada. The study highlights the importance of recognizing and supporting the mental health needs of correctional workers, who experience high levels of potentially traumatic events, occupational stress, and mental health difficulties. The research found that many correctional workers in the sample reported using cannabis in the past 6 months, with certain factors such as mental health disorders, childhood adversity, and occupational stressors associated with increased odds of cannabis use. The study suggests that correctional workers who use cannabis may be at higher risk for mental health and substance use concerns, and may require additional mental health and addiction services.
