Abstract

A report from Arak, Iran discusses a study comparing the anesthetic efficacy of ketamine, propofol, and dexmedetomidine for electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) in patients with treatment-resistant major depressive disorder. The study found that dexmedetomidine-treated patients reported higher satisfaction, while propofol-treated patients had shorter recovery time and seizure duration. The choice of anesthetic depends on individual physical conditions, underlying diseases, and consultation with a psychiatrist. This research has been peer-reviewed and more information can be obtained from the authors. [Extracted from the article]
