Abstract

A recent study conducted at Inha University Hospital in South Korea focused on sphenoid sinusitis, a condition that affects the sinuses. The study found that the abducens nerve, which is located at the base of the skull, is rarely affected by severe sphenoid sinusitis. However, the researchers reported a case of abducens nerve palsy in a healthy individual with chronic sphenoid sinusitis following a mild upper respiratory infection. The patient experienced sudden-onset double vision, but after undergoing sinus surgery and receiving corticosteroids and antibiotics, the symptoms completely resolved. This case highlights the potential complications of sphenoid sinusitis and the importance of prompt treatment. [Extracted from the article]
