Abstract

Based on the self-made electric pulse-ultrasonic assisted incremental forming platform, the incremental forming experiments of AZ31B Mg alloy were achieved. The results showed that both increasing the current density and raising the current frequency could elevate the forming temperature. Moreover, with appropriate current parameters, the fracture height exceeded 6 mm, which was more than 240% higher compared to the workpiece without energy field assistance. Comparatively, the softening effect of ultrasonic vibration on the sheets was most pronounced when the current frequency and density were 400 Hz with 29.8 A/mm<superscript>2</superscript> and 350 Hz with 31.3 A/mm<superscript>2</superscript>, and the softening effect mainly results from the promotion effect of ultrasound on the dynamic recrystallization of Mg alloy during the incremental forming process.
