Abstract

The article, written by Tim Stainton, discusses the concerns of the disability community regarding Canada's expansion of euthanasia and assisted suicide laws. Stainton criticizes the government for ignoring the opposition of disability organizations and UN human rights experts, as well as for the inclusion of mental illness in the legislation without proper study or review. Stainton argues that the government's dismissal of the disability community's concerns reflects a pervasive ableism in Canadian society. He also expresses concerns about the potential for further expansion of euthanasia laws and the devaluation of disabled lives. [Extracted from the article]
