Abstract
- The article offers information on the execution of Deyon, an enslaved teenage girl, for the murder of a six-year-old child in early 19th-century Ulster County, New York. Topics discussed include the impact of slavery on the societal and legal response to the crime; the role of the grist mills and the Bruyn family's enslavement practices; and the broader historical context of fear and control within a society deeply entrenched in slavery.
