Abstract

This article reviews two recent books, "Privilege: The Making of an Adolescent Elite at St. Paul's School" by Shamus Khan and "The Tyranny of Merit: What's Become of the Common Good?" by Michael J. Sandel. Both books explore socioeconomic inequalities and their impact on society. Khan argues that attending elite schools does not create a more equitable society, while Sandel critiques the concept of meritocracy and its role in disempowering ordinary citizens. The article also suggests that business schools may contribute to inequality by prioritizing wealth accumulation and promoting neoliberalism. It calls for a better understanding of privilege and inequality in different contexts and questions the exportation of Western norms by business schools. [Extracted from the article]
