Abstract

A recent report from Southern Medical University in Guangzhou, China, discusses the challenges of postoperative recurrence and wound infection in skin cancer patients. The researchers propose the use of specialty wound dressings with multifunctional bioactivity to address these challenges. They developed coaxial electrospinning nanofibers loaded with emodin, a natural compound with anti-cancer and anti-bacterial properties, to create a multifunctional wound dressing. The nanofibers exhibited good wettability, high emodin entrapment efficiency, and biphasic release profiles, and demonstrated biocompatibility and anti-cancer properties in vitro. The study suggests that emodin-loaded nanofiber wound dressings could be a potential treatment strategy for skin cancer postoperative management. [Extracted from the article]
