Abstract

A new study conducted at the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences in Uttar Pradesh, India, has examined the prevalence and clinical course of water and electrolyte disturbances (WEDs) following transsphenoidal pituitary adenoma surgery (TSS). The study found that WEDs are a common occurrence in the postoperative period, which can lead to prolonged hospital stays and readmissions, although they are rarely life-threatening. The research identified predictive factors for the occurrence of WEDs, such as apoplexy and duration of surgery. The study emphasizes the importance of timely follow-up and early diagnosis of new hormone deficiencies in postoperative care. [Extracted from the article]
