Abstract

New research from the University of Lorraine in Nancy, France has investigated the adsorption behavior of two specific amines, dodecylammonium chloride (DDA) and 3dodecyloxypropylammonium chloride (EA), on kaolinite surfaces. The study combined macroscopic analysis and infrared (IR) spectra with molecular modeling to understand the adsorption process at both the macroscopic and molecular levels. The research found that the chain length of the amines did not influence the mode of adsorption or adsorption energies for a single molecule, but intermolecular interactions did stabilize longer-chain molecules. The presence of an oxygen atom within the chain significantly affected the adsorption energies. The study also explored the influence of pH on adsorption behavior, revealing variations in adsorption with different pH levels. [Extracted from the article]
